Week 5 EOC: Social Networks and Job Hunting
After reading the two articles on job's hunting for prospective employee's through Facebook and Employers hiring loyal fans to get the word out, it made me feel as if it were easy to get a job. Well that was until i read on to see a passage in the textbook that read "Out of 2,000 or more online applicants, Sony picked only 25 brand ambassadors." It takes the most hardcore of the fans to get your foot into a company like Sony or Apple now a days, and that's scary for people who aren't necessarily passionate about products that way. Some people work for money and others just work for the experience, but that's becoming less and less possible with people like Macolytes applying and taking precedent over those who are more qualified. It also becomes more difficult with Facebook being used as a free-for-all hire who you may site for some employers. According to the article "Matt Mund, Monster.com's vice president of product management, acknowledged that Facebook as a recruiting platform is growing rapidly." This is a problem too because, I personally don't have anything on my Facebook that would let anyone know that I want to be hired. It makes it even more difficult for those who don't even have a Facebook in this day and age. Another problem with companies that are trying to hire is that they're looking for people with a lot of friends. The passage of the textbook quotes, "Marketers select their brand ambassadors very carefully, based on customers' devotion to a brand and the size of their social circles." This is a problem because if you're someone like me, you don't have a very large social circle. This is a problem for big companies because no matter how good of an employee you are, you just can't tell enough people about their next big thing to build some hype. So i feel as if it's easier to become a movie star now a days than it is to actually get a job, but I'm sure there's some app for that. (Reference to my last post)

Week 4 EOC: There's An App for That
So I was sure that there was pretty much an app for just
about everything. Then I found out that there’s an app that tests people for an
STD. I have to say that I’m very surprised but I’m not shocked. People want to
make an app for just about anything. If I had the power to make an app, it
would be an app that could manipulate your bank account. Of course this kind of
app would be Android exclusive since people who use apple don’t appear to care
if they have money or not anyway. I would call the app “The Investment”,
because it would cost $1,000, but let’s be honest; it would be so worth it. To
be able to look at your bank statement and change it from ten cents to $10,000
would be the best feeling in the world. I mean with this kind of app you could
go to school and not have to worry about loans. You could get a car and not be
worried about not being able to afford gas. You could sit back and relax and
not worry about working. People say that money can’t bring you happiness, but I
think this app could. Even the president would love this app. There are plenty
of people richer than the president and maybe he feels a little cheated by
that. The lower class citizens can become upper class. The working class can
become upper class. The middle class can become upper class. And the upper
class? Well the upper class would be the very generous donors to this wonderful
app. The app would be linked to all the upper class citizens bank accounts and
would withdraw money equally from all of their accounts whenever the app was
used. That would be the perfect app.

Week 3 EOC: Making Money for Good
I did some research on companies that donate to charities and I will admit that the results surprised me. Not because in the top 10, 3/10 of them were banks, but because they all gave so little. Well most of them gave little. Google on the other had were more willing to lend a helping hand. Google has given $144,606,000 in cash and $1,000,000,000 worth of products to charity as of 2012. Their share of 2011 pretax profits donated in 2012 was 9.3%. I have to say that I'm quite impressed with Google and the fact that even though they're a big company, unlike most other big companies they have a heart and compassion for other human beings. Now I realize that sometimes companies can change and i know that they haven't commented on their number for the 2013 year and what not, but keep in mind that Google is not a for profit company. To be continued...
